Family Allowance payment dates, 2026 (Retraite Québec)

The next quarterly payment falls in January 2027, but Retraite Québec had not posted its 2027 dates as of October 20, 2026; it usually does so before the year begins. Payments normally land at the start of the month; when the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday the deposit comes a little later, as the August 3 and January 5, 2026 dates show.

## What is the Family Allowance in Quebec?

The Family Allowance (allocation famille) is a tax-free payment from the Quebec government to families with children under 18 who live in Quebec. It is administered by Retraite Québec, the provincial agency that also runs the Québec Pension Plan, and it is separate from the federal Canada Child Benefit (CCB) paid by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Quebec parents therefore see two child deposits: the CCB around the 20th of each month, and the Family Allowance at the start of the month or quarter. Unlike the child benefits of BC, Ontario or Nova Scotia, Quebec's amount is never folded into the CCB deposit.

Family Allowance and supplements, 2026 (Retraite Québec)

### Where you fall between the minimum and maximum

Retraite Québec sets the amount from family income on line 275 of the Quebec income tax return (TP-1): both spouses' incomes for a couple, both spouses' incomes in a blended family, or the parent's own income in a single-parent family. Lower income moves you toward $3,068 per child; higher income moves you toward the $1,221 floor, which every eligible family keeps.

### Worked example: single parent with two children

A single mother in Sherbrooke with two children and low income would receive the maximum: $3,068 times two, plus the $1,077 single-parent supplement, for $7,213 a year. Paid quarterly, that is about $1,803 each quarter; paid monthly, about $601. A higher-income two-parent family with the same two children still receives at least $2,442 a year.

## Is the Family Allowance paid quarterly or monthly?

The Family Allowance is paid quarterly unless you ask for monthly payments. To switch, file Retraite Québec's Change in Frequency of Family Allowance form, or make the request through its online services. The yearly total is the same either way; only the timing changes.

- Monthly payments suit families who budget around rent due on the 1st.
- Quarterly payments give a larger lump sum, which some families prefer for back-to-school or winter costs.
- Retraite Québec asks recipients to use direct deposit so payments are not held up in the mail.

## Why was my Family Allowance suspended or changed in July?

Each spring, Retraite Québec recalculates the Family Allowance using the income you reported for the previous year, and new amounts apply from July to June. For the July 2026 to June 2027 period, recipients had to file their 2025 return with Revenu Québec before April 30, 2026, or payments could be temporarily suspended.

1. Check that both spouses filed a Quebec return, even if one had no income.
2. Confirm your marital status and address with Retraite Québec and Revenu Québec.
3. Look for the new-amount notice, which Retraite Québec makes available in mid-June.
4. If a return was late, file it; payments generally resume once income is known.

## How the Family Allowance relates to the Canada Child Benefit

Quebec families can receive both the Family Allowance and the full federal CCB. Neither program reduces the other. The CCB for July 2026 to June 2027 pays up to $8,157 a year for a child under 6, and the dates are listed on [CCB payment dates](https://canadapaymentdates.com/child-benefit/ccb-payment-dates); the federal amounts by age are on [CCB amount per child](https://canadapaymentdates.com/child-benefit/ccb-amount-per-child).

Quebec families on low incomes should also check the [Quebec solidarity tax credit](https://canadapaymentdates.com/provincial-benefits/quebec-solidarity-tax-credit), paid by Revenu Québec. Other provinces handle child support differently: British Columbia adds its amount to the CCB, as explained on [BC Family Benefit](https://canadapaymentdates.com/provincial-benefits/bc-family-benefit), while Manitoba uses a separate application, covered on [Manitoba Child Benefit](https://canadapaymentdates.com/provincial-benefits/manitoba-child-benefit). ## Common questions

### When is the next Family Allowance payment in Quebec?

Monthly recipients are paid next on November 2, 2026, then December 1. Quarterly recipients received their last 2026 payment on October 1, which covers October to December; their next payment comes in January 2027, on a date Retraite Québec has not yet published.

### When is the Canada Child Benefit paid in 2026?

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB), the federal child payment, is paid by the CRA, not Retraite Québec, so it arrives on different days. After the October 20 payment, its remaining 2026 payment dates are November 20 and December 11. Quebec families receive it in addition to the Family Allowance.

### How much is the Quebec family allowance per child in 2026?

Between $1,221 and $3,068 a year per child, depending on family income. Single-parent families get an extra $430 to $1,077 a year.

### Is the Quebec Family Allowance taxable?

No. The Family Allowance is tax-free and is not included in income on your federal or Quebec return.

### When is the school supplies supplement paid?

The $127 supplement for the purchase of school supplies is paid once a year with the July payment. In 2026 it was paid on July 2.

### Does the Family Allowance increase in 2027?

The amounts are indexed every January, but the 2027 figures are not yet announced. Retraite Québec publishes them with its yearly key data.
