How to use the GST credit calculator

Enter four things: your marital status, your 2025 adjusted family net income, the number of children under 19 living with you, and any children you share custody of. The GST credit calculator returns a yearly estimate and the amount of each quarterly payment for July 2026 to June 2027.

  1. Find line 23600 (net income) on your 2025 notice of assessment, and on your spouse's or partner's if you have one. Add them together.
  2. Choose your marital status as it is now, not as it was in 2025. The CRA uses your current family situation with last year's income.
  3. Count children under 19 on the payment date. A child who turns 19 during the year drops out after that birthday.
  4. Read the result against the payment you actually received in July or October 2026. A gap usually points to an income or family detail the CRA has recorded differently.

Formula with 2026-27 rates

The calculator uses the component amounts the CRA publishes for the 2025 base year, which set every CGEB payment from July 2026 to June 2027 (CRA, payment amounts). These already include the 25% increase that came with the renaming of the GST/HST credit.

The single supplement is the part most calculators get wrong. For a single person without children it builds up at 2 cents per dollar of income above $11,564 and is complete at $23,264, so very low incomes receive less than the headline $679. A single parent receives the full $234 supplement at any income.

How much GST credit will I get? Worked examples

Each example runs the formula above. Yearly figures are divided by four for the quarterly payment.

Sample results from the GST credit amount calculator, July 2026 to June 2027
Household and 2025 incomeWorkingYearlyPer quarter
Single, no children, $20,000$445 + 2% x $8,436 ($168.72)$613.72$153.43
Couple, no children, $58,000$890 - 5% x $11,568 ($578.40)$311.60$77.90
Single parent, 2 children, $50,000$1,358 - 5% x $3,568 ($178.40)$1,179.60$294.90
Couple, 3 children, $70,000$1,592 - 5% x $23,568 ($1,178.40)$413.60$103.40
Couple, 1 shared-custody child, $44,000$890 + $117, no reduction$1,007.00$251.75

The single parent in the third row gets $1,358 before the reduction: $445 for the parent, $445 for the first child, $234 for the second child and the $234 single supplement.

What income does the calculator use?

It uses adjusted family net income from 2025: your line 23600 net income plus your spouse's or common-law partner's. Gross pay, take-home pay and taxable income are all the wrong number. The CRA adjusts net income for a few items, such as registered disability savings plan income, which most households do not have.

Because the benefit year runs July to June, a change in income during 2026 does not alter the payments you receive before July 2027. The 2026 return you file in spring 2027 sets the payments from July 2027 onward.

How accurate is this estimate?

For most households the result matches the CRA's figure to the cent, because the formula is public and fixed for the year. It can differ in these situations:

  • Your marital status or number of children changed after July 2026; the CRA recalculates from the following quarter.
  • You are a single parent whose only children are in shared custody; the CRA's treatment of the supplement then depends on your specific file.
  • Part of your payment was kept to repay a debt or overpayment.
  • Your province adds its own credit to the same deposit, such as the Saskatchewan Low-Income Tax Credit or the Nova Scotia Affordable Living Tax Credit. Those are not included here.
  • The June 5, 2026 one-time top-up is not part of this calculation; it is explained on the grocery rebate page.

When the calculated amount is paid

The four payments for this benefit year are July 3, 2026, October 5, 2026, January 5, 2027 and April 5, 2027, the last two being the dates set in the CRA's guide to the benefit. If your quarterly result is under $50, which happens when the yearly amount is under $200, the CRA paid the whole year in one deposit on July 3, 2026, and nothing more comes until July 2027.

The full schedule is on GST payment dates. If you are paid by paper cheque, see GST cheque for how mail affects arrival, and the GST credit guide for how the whole program fits together.

Common questions

How do I calculate my GST credit?

Add $445 for yourself, $445 for a spouse (or a single parent's first child), $234 for each other child and any single supplement, then subtract 5% of 2025 family net income above $46,432. The result is your yearly amount for July 2026 to June 2027.

Is there an official CRA GST credit calculator?

The CRA offers a child and family benefits calculator on canada.ca and publishes a payments chart by income. This page applies the same published rates in a simpler form.

Why is my GST credit lower than the calculator shows?

Check that you entered combined family income and your current marital status. Other causes are a debt set-off, a child turning 19, or a reassessed return.

Can I calculate my 2027 GST credit now?

Only for the January and April 2027 payments, which use the rates on this page. Amounts from July 2027 depend on 2026 income and on rates not yet announced.

Does the calculator include provincial credits?

No. Provincial amounts paid with the CGEB have their own rates and income thresholds, so they are not included in this federal estimate.
