Ontario benefit payment dates for 2026: provincial and federal

Benefit payment dates in Ontario follow three provincial patterns: the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) arrives on the 10th of each month (Nov 10 and Dec 10 in the rest of 2026), the Ontario Child Benefit comes inside the Canada Child Benefit deposit, and GAINS for low-income seniors is issued on or about the 25th.

What are the benefit payment dates in Ontario for 2026?

Ontario residents receive two kinds of payments: provincial benefits that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or the Government of Ontario delivers, and the same federal benefits every Canadian gets. The benefit payment dates Ontario households see each month therefore mix a provincial pattern (the 10th for the OTB, around the 25th for GAINS) with the national calendar published on Canada.ca.

The table below lists each Ontario program, who pays it and the day of the month it normally lands. All dates are for the 2026 calendar year, as published by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario as of September 2026. Social assistance runs on its own calendar: the ODSP payment dates page lists ODSP and Ontario Works payments, which come at the end of the month.

Ontario benefit payment dates for 2026: provincial and federal

OTB day: The 10th, or the last working day before it.

Remaining 2026 OTB dates: Oct 9, Nov 10, Dec 10.

Ontario Child Benefit: Up to $146.66 per child per month, paid with the CCB.

Ontario's Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS) is issued on or about the 25th of each month, from July through June, according to the Government of Ontario.

Federal benefits reach Ontario on the same national dates as the rest of Canada.

October 2026 is a busy month because two quarterly payments fall in it.

No. As of September 2026, neither Canada.ca nor Ontario.ca lists 2027 dates for the OTB, the CCB or any Service Canada benefit.

When is the Ontario Trillium Benefit paid?

The Ontario Trillium Benefit is paid on the 10th of each month from July to the following June. When the 10th is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, the CRA sends it on the last working day before, which is why 2026 payments went out on Friday, January 9, Friday, May 8 and Friday, October 9.

Two exceptions change the timing. If your total OTB for the year is $500 or less, you get it all at once in July. If it is more than $500 and you ticked the single-payment box on your 2025 return, the whole amount arrives on June 10, 2027 instead. The full month-by-month list, with weekdays, is on the OTB payment dates page, and the amounts and application rules are in the Ontario Trillium Benefit guide.

Which credits are inside the OTB deposit?

One OTB payment can carry up to three credits: the Ontario energy and property tax credit for rent or property tax, the Northern Ontario energy credit for residents of ten northern districts, and the Ontario sales tax credit. You do not get three separate deposits; the CRA adds them together and divides the total by 12.

When is the Ontario Child Benefit paid?

The Ontario Child Benefit is paid on Canada Child Benefit (CCB) days, as one combined deposit. In 2026 that means the 20th of most months, with September 18 and December 11 as the early exceptions.

For July 2026 to June 2027 the OCB is worth up to $146.66 a month for each child under 18, with a partial amount once adjusted family net income passes $26,865 (CRA, Province of Ontario). There is no separate application: the CRA assesses you for it when you get the CCB. Amounts and examples are in the Ontario Child Benefit guide.

When do Ontario seniors get GAINS?

Ontario's Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS) is issued on or about the 25th of each month, from July through June, according to the Government of Ontario. It goes to seniors who already receive Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and have little private income.

For the 2026 benefit year (July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027), GAINS pays up to $92 a month and is not taxable. Because it arrives in the same week as the federal pension payments, many seniors see GAINS, CPP and OAS within a few days of each other. Timing details and eligibility are on the GAINS payment dates page.

Which federal benefits are paid in Ontario, and when?

Federal benefits reach Ontario on the same national dates as the rest of Canada. The CRA payment dates Ontario families watch most are the CCB, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB, which replaced the GST/HST credit in July 2026) and the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit. Service Canada pays CPP, OAS, GIS and the Canada Disability Benefit.

Every federal date for the whole year, month by month, is on the national CRA payment dates calendar.

What does a typical month of Ontario payments look like?

October 2026 was a busy month because two quarterly payments fell in it. A low-income Ontario parent who also works could have received four separate government deposits that month, in this order: CGEB on Monday, October 5; the OTB and the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit on Friday, October 9; and the CCB with the Ontario Child Benefit on Tuesday, October 20.

A senior in the same city would see a different pattern: the OTB on October 9, then CPP, OAS and GIS on October 28. GAINS is scheduled for on or about October 25, which is a Sunday in 2026, so the exact deposit day should be confirmed in your bank account or with Ontario.

Are the 2027 Ontario benefit payment dates published?

No. As of September 2026, neither Canada.ca nor Ontario.ca lists 2027 dates for the OTB, the CCB or any Service Canada benefit. The next-year calendar is normally posted late in the year, often in November or December.

One 2027 date is already fixed: the CRA says OTB recipients who chose a single annual payment will get it on June 10, 2027. For other months, the OTB rule makes a projection possible. Applying the 10th-or-earlier rule to the 2027 calendar gives January 8, April 9, July 9 and October 8 as the months likely to move; treat these as projections until the CRA publishes the schedule.

What should you do if an Ontario payment does not arrive?

Wait before calling. The CRA asks people to allow 10 working days after the scheduled date for the OTB and most other benefits, and 5 working days for the CCB, which also carries the OCB. Payments are released on the listed date but some banks take a few days to post them.

  1. Check that you filed your 2025 return, including Form ON-BEN if you want the energy and property tax or northern energy credits. The OTB for July 2026 to June 2027 is based on that return.
  2. Sign in to CRA My Account and look at the benefit payment list and your latest notice of determination.
  3. Confirm your direct deposit account and mailing address are current.
  4. After the waiting period, contact the CRA for the OTB or OCB, or Ontario's Ministry of Finance for GAINS.

The step-by-step checklist for missing payments of any kind is on the benefit payment not received page.

Common questions

What benefits are paid on the 10th in Ontario?

The Ontario Trillium Benefit is the provincial payment issued on the 10th. In some months the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit also falls near that date, as it did on October 9, 2026.

Is the Ontario Child Benefit a separate deposit from the CCB?

No. The CRA adds the Ontario Child Benefit to your Canada Child Benefit and sends one combined payment on CCB days, usually the 20th.

Why did I get my Ontario payment a day early?

When the scheduled day falls on a weekend or holiday, the CRA pays on the last working day before it. That moved the OTB from Saturday, October 10 to Friday, October 9, 2026.

Do Ontario benefits start again in July?

Yes. The OTB, OCB and GAINS all run on a July to June benefit year, so amounts are recalculated each July using the previous year's tax return.

Where are the 2027 Ontario payment dates?

They are not yet announced. Canada.ca usually adds the next year's calendar late in the year; only the June 10, 2027 OTB single payment date is confirmed so far.
