CCB increase: what changed in July 2026 and what to expect in July 2027
Short answer
The latest CCB increase took effect with the July 20, 2026 payment: the yearly maximum rose by $160 to $8,157 per child under 6 and by $135 to $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17, an increase of about 2.0%. The CCB is indexed to inflation every July. The July 2027 increase has not been announced yet; it will follow the CRA's 2027 indexation figures, expected in November 2026.

The July 2026 CCB increase
The Canada Child Benefit maximums went up on July 1, 2026, the first day of the new benefit year, and families saw the change in the July 20 deposit. The Government of Canada announced the new figures in a July 20, 2026 news release.
| Child's age | July 2025 to June 2026 | July 2026 to June 2027 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 6, per year | $7,997 | $8,157 | +$160 |
| 6 to 17, per year | $6,748 | $6,883 | +$135 |
| Under 6, per month | $666.42 | $679.75 | +$13.33 |
| 6 to 17, per month | $562.33 | $573.58 | +$11.25 |
The 2025-26 figures in this table are worked back from the announced increases. Dividing the new maximum by the old one gives about 2.0% for both age groups, which is the size of this year's inflation adjustment.
The same release gave an example of a family with a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old and $65,000 of income, which receives about $11,430 for 2026-27, nearly $400 more than the year before. The government says about 3.6 million families with 6 million children receive the CCB.
Does CCB increase every year?
Yes. The CCB has been indexed to inflation every year since 2018, and the adjustment always takes effect on July 1 so it lines up with the start of the benefit year. There is no mid-year Canada Child Benefit increase, unlike Old Age Security, which is adjusted four times a year.
Indexation moves more than the maximum per child. The two income thresholds where reductions start, $38,237 and $82,847 for 2026-27, are adjusted too. That matters for families whose income did not change: a higher threshold means a smaller reduction.

Canada Child Benefit 2027: the July 2027 increase
The CCB amounts for July 2027 to June 2028 are not yet announced. As of October 22, 2026, the CRA has not released its 2027 indexation figures, which are expected in November 2026. Its indexation table for 2026 already listed the CCB maximums and thresholds that took effect on July 1, 2026, raised by the same 2.0% applied to the tax brackets, so the 2027 table should be the first official word on the July 2027 amounts. The government then confirmed the 2026 figures in a July 20, 2026 news release.
We will not guess at a figure. The size of the July 2027 increase depends on inflation data that is still coming in, and a projection could mislead families planning a budget. What is known is the structure: new maximums and thresholds will apply from July 2027, and your payment will be based on your 2026 income.
Why your CCB went down in July even with an increase
Many families saw a lower payment in July 2026 despite the higher maximums. The inflation increase is small, while a change in income or family circumstances can move the payment by hundreds of dollars a month.
- Your income rose. July 2026 payments switched from 2024 income to 2025 income. With two children, every extra $1,000 of family income between the thresholds cuts the yearly CCB by $135.
- A child turned 6. That child moves to the lower rate, which is $1,274 a year less.
- A child turned 18. Payments for that child end, and a family's reduction rate can change because it now has fewer children.
- Your marital status changed. A new spouse or common-law partner's income is added to yours.
- A return was not filed. If either partner's 2025 return has not been assessed, payments can stop until it is.
Your July notice of determination lists the income and children used. Compare it with your own records, and run the numbers in the CCB calculator to see whether the change makes sense.
Canada Child Benefit increase: a worked comparison
Here is how the indexation and an income change interact for one family with a single 10-year-old child.
- Income stayed at $35,000 in both years: no reduction applies either year, so the family gains the full $135 increase, or $11.25 a month.
- Income rose from $35,000 to $48,000: in 2026-27 the reduction is 7% of $9,763, or $683.41, so the family gets $6,199.59. That is about $548 less than the $6,748 it received before, despite the increase.
- Income fell from $48,000 to $35,000: the family moves from a reduced amount to the full $6,883, the largest possible gain.
The lesson is that the yearly increase mostly helps families whose income is stable or falling. For per-child figures at more income levels, see how much CCB is per child.
Changes that are not part of the CCB increase
Provincial child benefits paid with the CCB follow their own rules and are set by each province. The Child Disability Benefit added to the CCB is set at up to $3,480 a year for 2026-27; our separate page on that benefit covers its rules.
Indexation changes amounts, not who qualifies. Who can apply, including the rule that temporary residents need 18 months in Canada, is covered on the CCB eligibility page and the page for work permit holders. The Canada Child Benefit guide has the payment calendar.
Common questions
Did CCB increase in July 2026?
Yes. The yearly maximum rose by $160 to $8,157 per child under 6 and by $135 to $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17, starting with the July 20, 2026 payment.
When will the July 2027 CCB increase be announced?
Not yet. The CRA's 2027 indexation figures, expected in November 2026, should list the CCB maximums and income thresholds for July 2027; in 2026 the government also confirmed the amounts in a July 20 news release.
Why did my CCB go down in July 2026?
Most often because July 2026 payments use 2025 income, and a higher income means a larger reduction. A child turning 6 or 18, or a new partner's income, can also lower the payment.
Is there a CCB increase in January?
No. The CCB is adjusted once a year, in July. A change in January comes from a change in your own situation, not from indexation.
How much did the CCB increase in percentage terms?
About 2.0% for July 2026, based on the published maximums: $8,157 compared with $7,997 for a child under 6, and $6,883 compared with $6,748 for a child aged 6 to 17.
When are the next CCB payments in 2026?
The CCB was paid on October 20, 2026, and the next deposits are November 20 and December 11, 2026. The CRA has not posted the 2027 payment dates yet; the full calendar is on CCB payment dates.
