When is CPP paid in January?

CPP was issued on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the same day as the Old Age Security pension, the Guaranteed Income Supplement and the Allowance. That date is the third-last business day of the month, the same rule Service Canada used for every month except December in 2026.

Is there a GST or CGEB payment in January?

Yes. January 5, 2026 was one of the last two payments made under the GST/HST credit name. From July 2026 the credit became the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, so January 2027 will be a CGEB payment. The CRA's guide to the benefit sets that payment for January 5, 2027, although the payment calendar has not listed it yet.

Advanced Canada Workers Benefit

The first of three ACWB instalments arrived on January 12, 2026. If you received it, the CRA sends an RC210 slip and you report the advances on line 41500 of your return. Details are on the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit page.

Provincial payments in January

Most provincial benefits do not have their own January date. They are added to a federal deposit, so the amount you see on January 20 or January 5 can be larger than the federal benefit alone.

  • With the January 20 CCB deposit: Ontario Child Benefit, Nova Scotia Child Benefit, New Brunswick Child Tax Benefit, Newfoundland and Labrador Child Benefit and PEI Child Benefit.
  • With the January 5 GST/HST credit deposit: Nova Scotia Affordable Living Tax Credit, New Brunswick HST Credit, NL Income Supplement and Seniors' Benefit, PEI Sales Tax Credit and Saskatchewan Low-Income Tax Credit.
  • Own date: Ontario Trillium Benefit (January 9) and Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit (January 23).
  • No January payment: the Alberta Child and Family Benefit, whose first 2026 instalment came on February 27.

What is different about January: increases and indexation

January is when the Canada Pension Plan increase takes effect. CPP rose 2.0% in January 2026, because the average consumer price index from November 2024 to October 2025 was 163.6, compared with 160.4 a year earlier. The 2026 maximum retirement pension at 65 is $1,507.65 a month.

Old Age Security is also indexed in January, as part of its quarterly adjustment in January, April, July and October. OAS never goes down when prices fall. The January to March 2027 OAS amounts are not yet published. The CPP increase page will add the 2027 rate once Service Canada releases it, usually in late autumn or December.

If a January payment does not arrive

Canada.ca notes that payments can take a few days to arrive and mailed cheques take longer. Use the set waiting periods before you call.

  1. For the January 20 CCB, wait 5 working days, which in 2026 meant you could call from Wednesday, January 28.
  2. For the January 5 GST/HST credit, the ACWB or the OTB, wait 10 working days from the payment date.
  3. For CPP, OAS or the Canada Disability Benefit, Canada.ca asks you to wait 5 to 10 business days before contacting the program.
  4. If the CGEB or CCB stopped completely, check whether the CRA has your latest return, since both are calculated from it.

The benefit payment not received page walks through each case. For the next month's schedule, see February payment dates.
