CRA direct deposit time: what day and hour CCB, CPP, OAS and other benefit payments show up

Short answer

There is no published CRA direct deposit time: the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) issues each benefit on its scheduled date, and the hour it appears depends on when your bank or credit union posts the deposit. The next dates are October 28, 2026 for CPP and OAS and November 20 for the Canada Child Benefit (CCB). The Government of Canada says payments may take a few days to arrive, so wait 5 working days for the CCB and 10 for other CRA payments before calling.

Is there a set CRA direct deposit time?

No. The CRA publishes payment dates, not times. Its benefit payment dates page lists the day each benefit is issued and the working days to wait if nothing arrives, but it says nothing about the hour (CRA, benefit payment dates). Anyone quoting an exact CRA direct deposit time is describing their own bank, not a CRA rule.

Direct deposit is the electronic transfer of a government payment into your Canadian bank or credit union account. The CRA sends the payment file for the scheduled date; your financial institution then decides when to credit it to your account and when the transaction appears in online banking.

What time does CCB get deposited?

The Canada Child Benefit has no official deposit hour either. What you can rely on is the date: the CCB is usually paid on the 20th, moved earlier when the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday, and paid early in December. In 2026 that produced June 19 (the 20th was a Saturday), September 18 (the 20th was a Sunday) and December 11 (CRA, CCB payment dates).

If the CCB is not in your account by the end of the payment date, check again the next business day before worrying. The CRA asks you to wait 5 working days from the payment date before contacting it about a CCB deposit. Our CCB payment dates page lists the full schedule.

When does each benefit get deposited? Upcoming 2026 dates

Different benefits have different dates, which is why one deposit can arrive while another does not. The CRA pays tax-based benefits; Service Canada pays the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS) and the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB).

What date does CPP get deposited?

CPP is deposited in the last week of the month, on the same day as OAS: September 25, October 28, November 26 and December 22 in 2026. CPP deposit details are held by Service Canada, not the CRA, which our CPP direct deposit guide explains.

What happens when a payment date falls on a weekend?

Scheduled dates are working days, so a benefit whose usual day lands on a weekend or holiday is moved earlier, not later. The Ontario Trillium Benefit is the clearest example: the CRA pays it on the 10th, or on the last working day before the 10th when that day is a weekend or holiday (CRA, Ontario programs). October 10, 2026 was a Saturday, so the October payment was made on Friday, October 9.

Bank holidays still matter after the payment is issued. If the payment date is the Friday before a long weekend, a bank that posts overnight may not show it until the next business day. Our long weekend payments page covers those months.

Why did someone else get paid before me?

  • Different banks. Each financial institution posts incoming government deposits on its own schedule, so two people paid the same day can see the money hours apart.
  • Different benefits. A friend's CCB and your CGEB, or their CPP and your CCB, are paid on different dates.
  • Cheque versus deposit. Mailed cheques take longer than direct deposit.
  • Different amounts. If your entitlement for the year is small, some benefits are paid once a year instead of monthly or quarterly. A CCB under $240 for the year is paid as one lump sum in July, and a quarterly CGEB under $50 is paid as one July payment.
  • A change on your file. A new bank account, a marital status update or a reassessment can hold or change one payment. See our guide to a marital status change.

Changing your direct deposit without missing a payment

A recent change of bank account is one of the usual reasons a CRA deposit is not showing yet. The CRA says an update made through your CRA account takes effect the next business day, while a mailed enrolment form can take up to 3 months or longer. You can also update through your bank's website. Phone updates are no longer accepted (CRA, direct deposit for individuals).

  1. Make the change online, at least a few business days before the next payment date.
  2. Keep the old account open until the first payment reaches the new one.
  3. Update Service Canada separately for CPP and OAS; the CRA does not administer those benefits.
  4. Check the direct deposit screen in your CRA account afterwards to confirm the new details.

When does a late deposit become a missing payment?

A CRA deposit becomes a missing payment once the official waiting period has passed: 5 working days after the payment date for the CCB and the Alberta Child and Family Benefit, and 10 working days for other CRA benefits such as the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit and the Ontario Trillium Benefit. For CPP and OAS, Service Canada asks you to wait 5 to 10 business days.

After that, check the payment record in your CRA account, then contact the agency that pays the benefit. Our benefit payment not received hub lists which agency handles which benefit. If OAS has stopped altogether rather than arriving late, see OAS payments stopped, and for a smaller OAS deposit see why is my OAS lower this month.

Common questions

Does the CRA deposit money at midnight?

The CRA does not publish a deposit hour. Whether a payment shows at midnight, early morning or later in the day depends on how your bank posts incoming government deposits.

Why is my CRA deposit not showing yet on the payment date?

Your bank may not have posted it yet, or the payment may be going to an old account or by cheque. Check again the next business day, then confirm your details in your CRA account. Contact the CRA only after 5 or 10 working days, depending on the benefit.

Can I get my CCB a day early?

No. The CRA issues the CCB on the scheduled date, and your bank cannot release it before then. The date only moves earlier when the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday, or in December.

Does changing my direct deposit with the CRA update CPP and OAS?

No. The CRA says it does not administer CPP, OAS or Employment Insurance. Update your banking with Service Canada separately for those benefits.

Do government deposits come on weekends?

Scheduled payment dates are working days. When the usual date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is issued on an earlier working day.
